If you know me at all, you know my hair is usually pulled up into a topknot or ponytail of some sort. I love when I have the time to shower, blow dry my hair and curl it all at once, but those days are few and far between as of late. But, I have been trying to mix it up and let the topknot out on occasion. So, I have been rocking these lazy girl, easy waves. If you have time to shower and partially blow-dry your hair (and I know even THAT is a tall order with kids sometimes) you can rock this hairstyle too! It is the perfect look for summer, because it is a little messy and fun, as opposed to those perfect curls you get with a curling iron. Trust me, anyone can figure this hairstyle out!
WHAT YOU NEED:
(1) Long enough hair to pull back into a topknot (if your hair is shorter, you can section your hair and make several smaller knots)
(2) Something to moisturize your ends…my favorite is straight coconut oil
(3) A blow dryer
(4) A hair clip
(5) Hairspray
HERE WE GO:
STEP 1: As soon as you get out of the shower, run some sort of moisturizer through your ends. I use plain old coconut oil. I rub a bit on my fingertips and then comb it through the ends of my hair.
STEP 2: Blowdry your hair 95% of the way. Your hair should be almost dry, but not 100% or overdryed. If you are REALLY looking for the lazy girl version of this hairstyle, sometimes I shower at night, let my hair airdry over night, then move onto step 3 in the morning.
STEP 3: After a blowdry, brush your hair so it is silky smooth. Next, twist all of your hair into a neat topknot and fasten with a clip. If you are looking for tighter waves, divide your hair into 4 and make 4 smaller, tighter topknots. WARNING, if you substitute a hair band for a clip, you might get a funky kink in your hair. Leave your hair in the twist as you do your makeup, get dressed, or do something else around the house. I would give it a good 20-30 minutes, if you have the time. The longer you leave it in the better. Sometimes, I actually go to bed after step 3 and have the most perfect waves when I wake up the next morning. To speed up the process, you can blowdry the bun. BUT, if you take this shortcut, let your hair cool completely before moving onto step 4.
STEP 4: Let your hair out of the bun. Flip your head over and spray liberally with your hairspray of choice while gently tousling your hair. Flip your head back over and VOILA, effortless waves. Avoid the temptation to run your fingers through your hair or tidy it up. It will fall into place and settle down on its own.
