Alright, it’s no secret I am a sucker for jackets. I rarely buy tops or dresses, but jackets I just cannot resist. Come fall + winter (and even a chilly summer night) all my favorite outfits have one thing in common, envy-worthy outerwear. Everyone needs a statement jacket in their wardrobe. They upgrade even the most basic look and instantly add a pop to your closet. It’s the first thing others see when you walk in a room and the easiest way to show off your own personal style. If you’re on the preppier side, add a hot pink blazer to your repertoire. If you go for the edgier look, this graffitied jacket is for you. Simple + traditional is your thing, throw in a classic silhouette with that extra touch of fun, like this splurge worthy Marissa Webb.
BUT, beware…it is really easy to crossover from statement to tacky. An easy way to avoid tacky, stick to brands you know, love & trust. And pick something that feels like you! Leopard is my jam…here are some other leopard jackets I am lusting over.
Statement pieces are a way to really make your wardrobe yours and let you break free from the fashion mob. It’s fun to own a piece you REALLY love that no one else has. Like this Veronica Beard leopard jacket. I think I read every blog post about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and almost no one included this jacket in their picks! HOW?! It is literally all my favorite things combined into one jacket. Classic silhouette, cropped hem (going to be everywhere this fall + winter) + the dreamiest leopard print. It makes me love it even more knowing there won’t be a Stepford mob of 20 and 30 somethings all wearing it this fall. Want this look for less? This Topshop version is only $85.
Leopard is a neutral in my book. Throw a leopard pattern on anything, and it will catch my eye. Give me a fun leopard jacket, and my will power to resist is GONE. This Veronica Beard leopard jacket is 33% off and my new favorite piece in my closet. Veronica Beard is one of my favorite designers. She blends basic + fun in the most perfect way. All of her pieces have an element of simplicity with a touch that gives it that high fashion feel. Like this classic blazer in the most dreamy powder blue. Usually, her pieces are a MAJOR splurge, so I jumped on this sale the moment I saw it. Here are some other swoon worthy Veronica Beard jackets:
Ready to add a statement jacket to your wardrobe? Here are four ways to style a statement jacket:
(1) keep it basic
You are already making a statement with your fun jacket, so keep the rest of your outfit basic. Your favorite pair of denim + a basic t-shirt will suffice. I fully plan to live in this jacket, my Levi’s jeans, a graphic t and fun sneakers come fall.
(2) go monochrome
The style I went for (shocking) was the all black look. Nothing accentuates your statement jacket like color blocking your base layer.
(3) accessorize
I am not great at accessorizing. It is something I am trying to work on, but throwing on a necklace or statement earrings doesn’t feel very me. But there are a few ways I definitely would accesorize this jacket if I was really going for that wow look. Throw my favorite red YSL clutch on + a bright red lip (I consider lipstick to be an accessory) and you’ve taken this neutral look to another level.
(4) dress it up
A great statement jacket should be versatile. Dress it up, dress it down, it works at every event. I can’t wait to dress this jacket up for a fancier night out.
xoxo!
