I am not sure how it is already August. Every summer seems to get shorter and shorter as I get older. With bb, time flies quicker than I thought was possible. We are soaking in the final weeks of summer but secretly ready for the cooler temps and slower pace that comes with fall. Summer is BUSY, and I am ready to slow down. Here is a little update of what’s been going on in our life, lately! Plus, a big announcement we are so excited about ;).
WHERE TO NEXT…
We are capping off the summer with a trip just me and Blake (any guesses where we are headed?!) for our FIVE (how is that possible?!) year anniversary. Then a trip to my family cottage in the UP of Michigan. My cottage is always the perfect end to a busy summer. We quite literally do nothing for an entire week. No internet, no blow dryers, no restaurants…we just soak in family time, enjoy the serenity of the upper peninsula and get some r&r.
BB
Boo is turning into a real little person more and more every day. She quite literally can already win arguments with me (a lawyer). She speaks to us like she is a 12 year old and we are like, where did our baby go!? She is SUCH a toddler. Short tempered, particular, and so funny. She is currently in a naked phase. She wants to be a “nakey gurl” all day, every day. Try explaining to a toddler why she has to wear clothes in public… We spend most of our days playing with her baby dolls (who also have to be naked), reading books, and making playdough “bourgers” (said in a French accent).
LOVING
Blake and I are loving our date nights. It is so easy to get caught up in baby mode and forget about who started it all, me and him. Halfway through summer we realized we had only had a handful of dates. So we have been really good about keeping up with some alone time just him and me, lately! We have really been mixing things up too. Movie in the park, staycations…we are planning a fun date night for friday. We are thinking something active + food (obviously).
CHANGES
Since bb was born, we knew our condo had an expiration date. We absolutely LOVE our condo. I love the brick walls, exposed beams, and patio space. But even more, I love the life we have built here. It is warm and cozy and filled with happy memories. We got engaged on our couch, I found out we were pregnant in my bathroom and we brought our sweet baby girl home within these walls. I wish the walls could expand with our little family, but sadly, they cannot. Our two bedroom condo is bursting at the seams. Toys fill every nook and I cannot bear the clutter.
We started casually looking for our next home about a year or so ago. We had no idea where we wanted to move, if we were suburbs bound or staying in the city, if we would rehab an old home, buy new, or build. We figured that we would know when we found the right place. For over a year, absolutely nothing was good enough to make me want to move out of our current home. In May, we finally decided to just take a break from looking, enjoy the summer in the city and start looking again come fall. Well, life had other plans, as it often does. Days later, a new listing popped up and I told Blake I was “just going to do a quick drive-by.” The casual drive-by turned into curb stalking, an offer, a contract and a closing! Next home, here we come 🙂 More details to come soon!
BLOG
bb is not a fan of taking pictures, lately. She is such a little person with major preferences and she does NOT want to be photographed. So I am majorly taming my mom instincts which want to constantly document how cute she is. So naturally, my blog & Instagram is evolving a bit. Gone are the days when we captured insta-worthy pictures of us twinning every day (still twinning, obviously, until the days she leaves for college, but ditching the camera). I never want to be that mom that sacrifices memories + moments to get the perfect shot. They were so easy to snap when our little photoshoots were like a game to her and all she wanted to do was “take a picture real quick.” That phase is over. So, for now, you can expect more of me and less of miss b (with the occasional candid, of course).
With our big move coming up, you can expect to see a little more about that, as it takes over our lives for a while! When the blog started, the idea was to capture snapshots of our life, as it changes and evolves and we move into a new chapter, the blog will too!
Hoping to stay consistent and do these updates a little more often!
xoxo
