When navy meets black, it’s like sea salt + chocolate, surprising yet perfectly paired. I love how quietly sophisticated this look can be. In my book, black on black on black is never a mistake, but sometimes I want to mix in a little color while remaining neutral. Navy fits the bill while feeling neutral(ish) but still adding that perfect pop of color to my usual head-to-toe black uniform. Even better, navy and black are both colors that are universally flattering.
I also love that all three of these pieces are staple pieces you can wear a bagillion times. There is nothing I love more than making a new outfit out of ALL old pieces. And that is what you have right here. My all time favorite EILEEN FISHER SWEATER (this is a major splurge but has lasted season after season) + my favorite STEVE MADDEN OVER THE KNEE BOOTS (they are 20% off right now + actually stay up without the Stuart Weitzman sticker shock) + a navy Topshop skirt from a Nordstrom Anniversary sale past (sold out but HERE is cute suede alternative).
What used to be a fashion faux pas is now a classic and chic look that everyone needs to try. Here are four ways to wear black and navy this fall with links to shop below:
